Looking to buy an electric car this year? When comparing your options, you’ll need to consider the base price, efficiency, and range of different models. Here are some of our favorite models.
Porsche Taycan — 69 MPGe
Also known as the market’s first true head-to-head rival for the well-known Tesla Model S, this is Porsche’s first EV. This four-seat sedan might be the least efficient and the most expensive on this list, but thanks to its sexy design, luxurious interiors, and extreme performance, its desirability is off the charts. Currently, every Taycan features two powerful electric motors and an all-wheel drive. Porsche has three models of this EV: the 750-hp Turbo S, the 670-hp Turbo, and the 522-hp 4S. Keep in mind that every Taycan model is battery powered. The 4S Taycan model has an EPA-rated range of 203 miles (but the Turbo S and Turbo offer a little less range).
Audi e-tron — 74 MPGe
The only EV by Audi is essentially a five-passenger SUV. It is expected to be available in two body styles: the standard e-tron with more cargo space and the e-tron Sportback with a coupe-like sportier silhouette. Both are offered in a couple of trim levels, and each has two electric motors that can generate a combined 414 pound-feet of torque and 355 horsepower, and a sizable 95.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. These models also feature all-wheel drive, which is standard. While there’s a small trunk up front, there’s plenty of rear cargo space, making it the perfect family car.
Jaguar I-Pace — 76 MPGe
The first EV by Jaguar, the I-Pace competes with the Tesla Model X but is priced comparatively less. The company offers three trim levels – HSE, SE, and S. They all get the same two electric motors that produce 512 pound-feet of torque and a heady 394 horsepower, and a 90.0 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It features an all-wheel-drive as standard. Its 234-mile range allows this EV to hit 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric vehicles on the market. It has a small front truck, seating for five and 25 cubic feet of rear cargo space.
